Indonesia Trip

Over 17,000 island make up Indonesia and off the island of Sulawesi is located one of the most bio-diverse areas in the world!  Between muck and reef diving, you will see more new critters than you have seen in your whole dive career.

We fly from LA to Singapore and then to Manado.  A short ride will bring us to our home for the week, Kungkungan Bay Resort.  KBR was the first dive resort in the Lembah Straight and still does it the best.  We can do 3 boat dives per day.  They offer shore diving during the day in their bay.  Since it has been off limits to fishing for over 25 years, it is one of the “fishiest” dives you’ll ever make.

The resort offers a private jetty with camera rinse tanks and hot showers, air conditioned rooms, a swimming pool with swim up bar, wifi hot spots and 24 hr restaurant service.

Muck diving?  Just wait and see!!  The Lembah Straight is nestled between the islands of  Sulawesi and Lembah.   Many sites here have black sandy bottoms and hidden in this “muck” are the truly wonderful and bizarre!

Many of the creatures you will see are small but can be found no where else on earth.  Sea horses and nudibranchs are common!!  Not to mention the frog fish, devil fish, lion fish, puffer fish, octopus, ribbon eels and that is just the first dive!!  KBR is a photographers dream.

$3399* includes round trip air from Los Angeles, lodging, all meals and 6 days of diving, pre/post trip parties and t-shirt.  Room upgrades and nitrox packages are available

*This is the cash/check discount price.  Regular price is $3605.  Price is subject to change and is based on Double Occupancy.  Single supplement will be extra.  Deposits may be non-refundable and cancellation charges may apply.

WIN A TRIP!!

So many of you have seen our Facebook post from Saturday and want to know the details of how to win a trip with us.  In a nutshell the trip is a live-aboard on the "Turks and Caicos Explorer II" which is based in...wait for it......the Turks and Caicos!!  These are some great diving islands in the Caribbean.  The room is a lower deck stateroom but you can pay extra to upgrade.  It does not include airfare, tips, fuel surcharge and port tax.  We have a trip scheduled there August 3-10, 2013.  We are putting together the details for this trip but the space must be used during this week.  If you have "Liked" the picture, your name will put in a drawing and pulled out Friday November 23 at 3pm.  You need not be present to win but we will have some smaller giveaways for the people who show up to join in the fun!!

Now many people have asked about how we won the trip.  We were in Las Vegas last week for our annual trade show  (the DEMA Show).  Saturday morning, before they were letting people in, they had the guys from Scuba Radio doing some giveaways to the crowd as we waiting to go in.  The final one was to take a picture of him and the stage, post it on Facebook and whomever could get the most "Likes" in five minutes would win!!  Well we got six likes and won!!  Naturally we want to pass that great karma on to you!!

If you don't win, make sure to check out the trip, we will post details just as soon as we have them but the basics are August 3-11, 2013.  Trip cost is between $2095-$2495 depending on the cabin you choose.  It does not include airfare, tips, fuel surcharge and port tax.

GOOD LUCK!!!!

Back from the Aqua Cat

We recently returned froma week on the Aqua Cat. This is one of our favorite trips and we have brought groups there 3 times in the last 6 years. Without a doubt the main reason is the boat and crew. First the boat is very spacious. If you have ever been on a live aboard before, you know that it can feel a bit cramped. The cabins, the dive deck, the salon , the outdoor areas all have plenty of room. Then we have the crew. Having been there 4 times, I marvel at how the crew turns over. I have learned about an interesting subset of 20 something year olds out there that wander the globe diving in exotic locations. They don't stay any where too long before moving on to a new adventure. I am reminded of the quote that "Not all who wander are lost."

Of course we also like the diving. The walls of the Exumas are littered with canyons and swim throughs which are always a blast. You see sharks on mulitple dives.  We also dove around Eluthera as well.  This Bahamain island is a little farther east and if the winds are right for the Exumas, they are over there.  Split Coral Head was our best night dive with plenty of jacks and tarpon swimming with us.

Catalina Island June and September

Catalina Island
June 8-10 and September 21-23

The kelp forests of Southern California have long been a Utah diver’s playground. Only a 10 hour drive or 1.5 hour flight, Southern California’s waters abound with life. Located less than 26 miles offshore from Los Angeles is Catalina Island.

Catalina Island is one of the Channel Islands and is the only one with a permanent population. Avalon is a picturesque town that is the main stop when visiting Catalina. You can shore dive Casino Point Marine Park or take a boat to visit more sites around the island.

We will meet Friday morning September 9 at 9am at the Catalina Express Boat terminal in Long Beach on the mainland. Our shuttle will deliver us to the island and then to the hotel by noon. After a quick lunch we will spend the afternoon shore diving in the Marine Park. Saturday we will make up to 3 dives in the Marine Park plus a night dive. For an extra charge, you can head out on the “King Neptune” for 3 boat dives. Sunday we depart Catalina at noon.

$299* for June and $315* for September includes roundtrip Catalina Express, 2 night lodging, tanks and weights for shore diving with an extra air fill. Saturday on the King Neptune is an extra $134 and includes continental breakfast and lunch. You need to make your own arrangements to arrive in Long Beach.

*This is the cash/check/debit card discount price. Regular price is $308 Price is subject to change and is based on Double Occupancy. Single supplement will be extra. Deposits may be non-refundable and cancellation charges may apply.
